Uses of Quinapril
Quinapril is commonly used for the following conditions.
- To lower high blood pressure (hypertension)
- Heart failure, a condition where the heart is not pumping as well as it should
Quinapril may also be used for other conditions as determined by your healthcare provider.
Precautions and Warnings
People who are allergic to any of the following should not take quinapril.
Your pharmacist can tell you all of the ingredients in the specific quinapril products they stock.
Quinapril may cause a rare reaction called angioedema, where there is swelling under the skin. This medicine should not be used if you have had angioedema.
Quinapril should not be taken while you are using certain other medicines. Before taking quinapril, tell your healthcare provider about any prescription or over-the-counter (OTC) medicines, vitamins/minerals, herbal products, and other supplements you are using. Do not take quinapril unless it has been prescribed to you by a healthcare provider. Take it as prescribed.
Do not share quinapril with other people, even if they have the same condition as you. It may harm them.
Keep quinapril out of the reach of children.
Quinapril can affect your alertness or coordination. Do not drive or do other activities that require alertness or coordination until you know how quinapril affects you.
Dosage
Take Quinapril exactly as prescribed. It is recommended to take your dose at about the same time every day.
For High Blood Pressure (Hypertension): For patients not taking a diuretic the recommended starting dose is 10 mg once a day. For patients also taking a diuretic the recommended starting dose is 5 mg once a day.
Congestive Heart Failure The recommended starting dose is 5 mg once a day

- Dizziness
- Low blood pressure (see below)
- Headache
- Tiredness
- Cough
- Nausea and vomiting
